At the end of the 13th century, Count Floris V of Holland (1256-1296) ordered the construction of a series of castles to control the Westfrisian population. Radboud Castle is the only one remaining of those castles. The name Radboud has been derived from the popular assumption that the castle was build on the place where in the 8th century a castle from the Frisian king Radboud had been standing. It is also known as Medemblik Castle. It was used as a prison, Reformed church and courthouse (till 1936). What's in it now - have no idea :)

В конце 13 столетия, граф Флорис V Голландский заказал строительство серии замков для контроля над западнофизийским населением. Замок Рэдбоуд - единственный оставшийся среди них. Свое имя он приобрел от популярного предположения, что замок построен на месте, где в 8 веке стоял замок фризийского короля Рэдбоуда. Он также известен и как замок Медемблик. Со времен постройки замок использовался как тюрьма, Реформаторская церковь и суд (вплоть до 1936 г.) Что в нем находится сейчас - без понятия :)
